Collection: Yann Durrmann

The Durrmann family makes wine in Andlau, a beautiful little village on the lower slopes of the Vosges mountains, southwest of Strasbourg. Their old 17th century family house is located in the center of the village and not only is their home, but also the processing and aging room are located under the ancient beams.

Yann's father , André, started farming with just 1.5 hectares of land in early 1979 and through several small steps they reached the current total area of ​​seven hectares.
The vineyards are currently located in about 30 locations around the village. Over the years, they have gradually acquired plots and consciously sought out different soil qualities, striving to show the diversity of the region. Andlau enjoys great geological diversity: sandstone, slate, granite and limestone are all present and give rise to wines with different personalities.

André is one of the first representatives of organic winemakers in Alsace, converting the farm to organic in 1998, and Yann then takes this work a step further when he takes over the management of the winery and introduces the natural approach in the cellar. As early as 2007, they began experimenting with sulfur-free winemaking, and today the wines are made with as little intervention as possible, without added substances. The winemaking takes place partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in old, large wooden barrels (foudre).

The Durrmans believe that the quality of wine is determined by the work done in the vineyard, so they aim to preserve the land and capital. They work in permaculture: trees share the vineyards with the grapes, sheep roam the plantations, which are so balanced thanks to many years of work that they hardly need spraying.
