Collection: Claus Preisinger

Claus first began working with grapes and wine as a hobby alongside his father. He later spent several formative years working with his neighbor, Hans Nittnaus, one of the leading figures of Burgenland’s Blaufränkisch scene. That period along with his mentor’s influence proved decisive, ultimately inspiring Claus to dedicate himself fully to winemaking.

He released his first vintage in 2000, farming just 3 hectares at the time. Today, he works 19 hectares spread across 64 individual plots. He practices uncompromising biodynamic viticulture throughout the estate and has been certified by Respekt since 2009.

His modern, state-of-the-art cellar is located outside the village of Gols, deliberately set apart from the traditional Kellergasse, a choice that reflects his independent mindset. As Claus puts it:

“There are already many outstanding wines, but none of them represent my ideal. I would rather make my own wine. And if it turns out to be outstanding, then I’m happy.”

Claus aims to craft wines that are pure, balanced, and true expressions of their region. Rather than following established formulas, he trusts his instincts, constantly experiments, and seeks new interpretations. He was one of the firsts Austrian winemakers to explore skin-fermented white wines.

Fermentation and aging take place in a variety of amphorae as well as large barrels of over 1,000 liters. In the cellar, his approach is strikingly minimalist and non-interventionist. The wines are bottled unfined, unfiltered, and mostly without added sulfur.
