Collection: Jean-François Ginglinger

Jean-François Ginglinger lives and works in Pfaffenheim, in the heart of Alsace, continuing a family winemaking tradition that dates back to 1610. For generations, the Ginglingers have cultivated vines, crafted wines, and cared for their estate with deep respect for the land.

In the 1990s, his father, Jean-Louis Ginglinger, began transitioning the domaine to organic and biodynamic farming, while also experimenting with natural winemaking methods. When Jean-François took over the estate, he embraced these principles fully and pushed them even further. Today, he works the vineyards exclusively with horses, and after bottling his Pinot Noir “Steiner” without sulfur as an experiment in 2003, he ultimately eliminated sulfur entirely from his cellar practices.

The estate now spans around six hectares, with roughly one third of the vines located in the Grand Cru vineyards of Steinert and Zinnkoepfle. The soils are geologically complex, composed of various types of limestone, including calcareous sandstone, which contributes remarkable tension and vibrant acidity to the wines.

Harvesting is done entirely by hand, followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The grapes are often pressed as whole clusters. Jean-François works with all the emblematic Alsatian varieties:  Sylvaner, Riesling, Muscat d’Alsace, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir, crafting wines that are mineral, lively, and driven by bright acidity.

His wines beautifully balance elegance and the vivid energy of their terroir, while also reflecting the playfulness and independent spirit of the winemaker himself.
