Collection: Jean-Marc Dreyer

Jean-Marc Dreyer is a fourth-generation biodynamic natural winemaker based in Alsace, in northern France. His skin-macerated wines, produced without added sulfur, stand as striking examples of contemporary Alsatian winemaking, vibrant, expressive interpretations of the region’s traditional grape varieties.

The estate is located in Rosheim, where Jean-Marc farms six hectares divided into 25 separate parcels, most of them situated on high-altitude limestone and clay soils. Nearly the full spectrum of Alsace’s classic grapes can be found in his vineyards: Auxerrois, Sylvaner, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat d’Alsace, and Pinot Noir.

After studying oenology, Jean-Marc returned to join his parents’ domaine. At first, he showed little interest in organic or biodynamic farming, let alone natural winemaking. However, a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela marked a turning point in his life. The experience led him to fundamentally rethink his approach, and since 2003 he has farmed biodynamically, embracing both natural methods and the deep-rooted traditions of Alsatian viticulture.

For his white wines, skin maceration is almost always part of the process, sometimes carried out in vessels covered with tarpaulins in front of his home. The wines are then transferred to traditional large Alsatian oak foudres, where they age for at least one year. The result is wines that are fresh, aromatic, and deeply expressive, aiming to convey the authentic character of each grape variety and its terroir.

Beyond his talent as a winemaker, Jean-Marc is known for his warmth and generosity. Sharing a table with him is a genuine pleasure, he is a heartfelt host and an engaging, unforgettable conversationalist.

Jean-Marc is also a founding member of SAINS (Sans Aucun Intrant Ni Sulfite Ajouté), one of the most important associations of natural winemakers, uniting producers committed to making wine without additives or added sulfur.
