Middle Mosel, Kinheim. The Celts and Romans were already cultivating vines on these steep slopes, blessed with an ideal climate and soils of weathered grey and blue slate. A statue discovered among the stones of ancient buildings depicting Sucellus (the Gallo-Roman god of winemakers and coopers) stands as proof of this long tradition.

One can only imagine the ancient wines once made here by the peoples who first tended these hillsides: wines shaped entirely by nature, crafted by hand, guided by an intimate and holistic understanding of the land.

Rita and Rudolf are convinced that only such an approach can truly express the full character of this remarkable terroir. Working in harmony with nature and the rhythms of the cosmos.

In 1978, they became among the first pioneers in Germany to convert their entire estate to biodynamic farming. Then, in 2010, they introduced their avant-garde vineyard-made “Purus” series. Wines that are unfiltered, unfined, and produced without any added sulfur.

Rather than relying on additives or preservatives, they achieve natural stability through extended maceration, allowing all essential biological processes to unfold slowly and naturally. Each bottle is filled by hand and sealed with a crown cap, preserving the wine’s natural carbonation. Combined with the structure gained from maceration, this enhances both the wine’s longevity and its resilience.
