Collection: Thibaud Capellaro

Thibaud Capellaro is a young winemaker who lives and works in the Rhône Valley, one of the most famous wine regions in his country.

Although his studies initially led him to the world of business, he decided to devote himself to his greatest passion, wine. After studying winemaking at Beaune, he visited many places in France and Australia. In 2018, he managed to land a small plot, which we highlight here because in the Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie appellations, grapes are extremely expensive and the land for sale is only available in leap years. Thibaud took over the vineyards of an elderly local winemaker and also bought a previously fallow, eastern-facing plot that he recently planted. This area is part of the famous Côte Brune appellation, located on a hill above the town of Ampuis, which is one of the steepest vineyard areas in France, at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level. He supplements the raw material picked from still young vines and from his other own area with waiting grapes, which he receives from winemakers working in a similar way, e.g. Clusel-Roch and Le Mazel score.

Thibaud's winemaking practices are unique, often going against the grain of the region's established and established customs. He uses minimal intervention, fermenting spontaneously with only naturally occurring yeasts. He aims to highlight the full range of fruit and terroir characteristics rather than focusing on technology. He experiments with a variety of vessels, including old oak barrels, fiberglass and stainless steel tanks, as well as terracotta and concrete.

His wines are like him: honest and not afraid to be unique, impeccable and humble, slowly revealing depths and structure that we might not expect upon first approach.
