The vineyard in Nosza, located in southern Csongrád, was planted in 1880, making these the oldest known Kadarka vines in the world. The bush vines, thanks to the sandy soils characteristic of this region, survived the phylloxera epidemic and remain rooted in the ground on their own original roots to this day. Beneath the 50 cm sandy topsoil lies a loess-rich subsoil, abundant in clay and limestone, which gives the grapes from these 140-year-old vines their distinctive mineral character. Combined with naturally low yields, this produces an exceptionally concentrated juice. The destemmed grapes ferment for two weeks in open vats, then the wine is aged for a year in old barrels. Bottled by gravity, with no added sulfur.

Maurer Oszkár
Oszkár Maurer, a fourth-generation winemaker whose great-grandfather also worked in the region, lives and farms his lands in Hajdújárás, 35 kilometers from Szeged, just across the Hungarian border. His vineyards straddle two historically significant areas: the South Csongrád wine region and the Szerémség region, often considered the cradle of Hungarian wine culture.
