Tradition, Precision, Anarchy

The unusual harmony of these three words, each evoking very different feelings, leaves a lasting impression on anyone who walks through the Groebe family cellar. The winery’s history stretches back to the 18th century, when their Huguenot ancestors were already cultivating vines on the sunny limestone slopes of the Wonnegau. Tradition and respect for those who came before are encoded in the family’s very being, passed down from generation to generation. Three generations still live together on the estate today.

Jason, the fourth generation, grew up among these vines, which the family has farmed organically since 2006. Alongside the discipline of precise routines, his passion is guided by a deep connection to nature. After graduating from the renowned winemaking school in Geisenheim, he brought new energy and perspective to the estate. Step by step, he began experimenting with natural winemaking, humbly following the wine’s journey from pruning to bottling.

By 2018, he had devoted a third of the 9-hectare estate entirely to letting the grapes express themselves. The wines are aged in 1,000-liter old oval barrels and bottled without fining, filtering, or added sulfur, a direct reflection of the land, the family, and Jason’s vision.
