This wine is made from Gamay and very old Pinot Noir vines derived from a Burgundian massal selection planted in Auvergne, originally the first vineyard parcel established by Claude Sauvat when founding the estate. The vineyard lies on the outskirts of the village of Boudes, where the soils are predominantly basalt, interspersed with heavily fractured limestone.

In 2022, the Gamay from this parcel was used for the Abrupts cuvée, while the Pinot Noir went into Vie Ordinaire. In 2023, Henri chose to isolate this section of the vineyard, sensing its particularly distinctive character. Vinification involved 10–12 days of whole-cluster maceration in large stainless steel tanks, followed by gentle élevage for 12 months in old 228L barrels and a further 6 months of bottle aging before release.

The result is a finely structured, site-driven cuvée where the tension between basaltic minerality and lifted red fruit is expressed with clarity, depth, and precision.
