SECRET DROP – Bencze DUO (Limited Edition)
The 2023 vintage delivered two exceptional “bomb” wines, each produced in a single small lot, now offered together as a duo.
Kadarka comes from two tiny parcels (0.2 ha Templomdombi and a few rows from Rókaluki). Harvested over two days in the second week of September, the most perfect bunches were hand-picked and fermented in amphorae, while the remainder was foot-trodden and fermented in steel tanks. After pressing, the berry-picked portion was blended with the foot-trodden fraction, and the combined wine aged 11 months in old 228 L barrels.
Kékbakator was also sourced from two small sites, with an earlier and a later harvest (September 13 and 21). The early portion was foot-trodden, and the later portion underwent a mix of berry and whole-cluster maceration for seven days. After blending, the wine aged in amphorae for 11 months.
Both wines are alive with energy, vibrant spice, and subtle sparkle. Sophisticated extraction reveals light red berry and raspberry notes, making them irresistibly drinkable and full of character.

Stephen Bencze
István founded his estate on the Szent György Hill in 2011, which reached its final size of nearly 30 hectares step by step between 2011-2024. He has been working organically since the beginning, and since 2015 he has farmed the entire estate biodynamically (Demeter certified), with the goal of exploring old Hungarian grape varieties and the full potential of the terroir.
